Of 41 East TSI students, only 5 of them are girls!!  Last week, Mr. Markey, the Principal of East Leyden, asked a few of the TSI girls (in conjunction with Ms. Martire) to write a blog post for the Fem Tech Project.

The Fem Tech Project is a site devoted to sharing stories of women in technology.  Karolina Moniuszcko and Julina Saroca, both seniors, offered their thoughts in the blog posting.

Seriously!

The new iPhone 5 from Apple came out 1 month ago. It is no surprise that Apple has sold over 5 million units. With the major popularity of Apple, their iPhone is a must have. 

Days before the iPhone came out, people were already in line waiting for it. One gentleman was even paid $250 just to wait in line for an impatient customer. Seems a little crazy if you ask me!

Where are all the Loaners?

This week's TSI update is on Loaner Chromebooks. Unfortunately, due to the increasing number of students needing temporary Chromebooks due to cracked screens, we have a shortage of loaner Chromebooks. At this point in time, only students who have damaged Chromebooks will receive a loaner. If you find your Chromebook is out of power, stop by TSI and we can charge it for you, but we can not give you a loaner in return.

The New iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is the iPhone we've wanted since 2010, adding long-overdue upgrades like a larger screen and faster 4G LTE in a razor-sharp new design. This is the iPhone, rebooted.

The new design is flat-out lovely, both to look at and to hold, and it's hard to find a single part that hasn't been tweaked from the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5 is at once completely rebuilt and completely familiar. 

Now the iPhone 5 has 4G, and has a larger screen. That's not all though: the already great camera's been subtly improved, speakerphone and noise-canceling quality has been tweaked, and -- as always -- iOS 6 brings a host of other improvements, including baked-in turn-by-turn navigation, a smarter Siri, and Passbook, a location-aware digital wallet app for storing documents like gift cards, boarding passes, and tickets.

The iPhone5 is the lightest iPhone. This phone is 4G LITE which is better than the WiFi at your house.  The new iPhone5 has many more features such as the ones listed below:

• High Resolution
• Portrait/landscape Mode
• Better Video quality
• Apps take advantage of the whole screen
• Video playback
• Smaller charger port
• Better camera features:
• New sapphire-crystal lens, and improved hardware enabling features like dynamic low-lighting adjustment, image stabilization on the 1080p video camera, and the capability to take still shots while shooting video.

Thoughts About the Chromebook

Now that we are in the 5th week of school, I was interested in what the students thought about the Chromebook. Here is what some of the students think about the Chromebook:

"I really like working with the Chromebooks. I think that in the future all schools will have computers for every student and Leyden is just getting a head start" Daniel Wolski, Senior.

"I like the Chromebook because we have access to the internet throughout our whole school day. Not having the need to go to the library or computer lab is really convenient" Karolina Moniuszko, Senior

"My favorite thing about the chrome book is that it takes away the need to carry around books and paper all day. It only takes one charge for a few days and it makes working so much more efficient" Zachary Kupfer, Senior

"The thing I like the most about these Chromebooks is that i can finally be working on a document or presentation with friends at the same time and not have to worry about only one copy because everyone will be working on the same copy and save the hassle" Pete Kozielec, Le Junior.

"I love everything about the Chromebook. It's very convenient to all our classes" Julina Saroca, Senior.

"I think the Chromebooks are alright, but I don't like when sometimes it erases all my data" Dulce Lopez, Senior.

"I think that the Chromebook is very efficient because it gets rid of paper, and it is easier for students and teachers to access homework assignments and communicate with each other" Ana Guzman, Senior.

Overall it seems that students like the Chromebook because it makes everything easy.  It is very convenient!

A Glimpse Into Apple's Future Product Releases

"Apple Continues to Innovate"

Are you familiarized with Apple? The majority of people have an iPod, iPhone, or iPad, whom are developed by the famous company, Apple. We all love those products, but now Apple is focusing on new products. This time around, there are four things to focus on:  the new Apple TV (television, non set-top box), new 3D imaging devices, a new MacBook Pro, and an iWallet.



Apple TV
Did you know that there will be an Apple TV? The rumor about Apple TVs has been out there since 2007 and is still being rumored in 2012. Apple has just won a patent for a technology called Fringe Field Switching which is designed to provide a greater range of color with higher luminosity.


3D Imaging
Apple is working on 3D imaging, most likely for iOS devices. This would display much more accurate 3D recordings of both images and video. Along this patent of 3D imaging, there is another one for the 3D creation app. This would be particularly useful for gaming, but could also touch other fields such as how Microsoft used avatars with the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Marketplace.


MacBook Pro
The new MacBook Pro can be the third or the next next generation. Apple has been working on a new MacBook which which was filed under three tags that really stand out: touch screens, tablet computers, and electronic notepads.


iWallet
The primary focus of this product is so that the owner would be able to be so specific as to set budget rules that would not only limit to a general spending cap, but could even limit within particular categories such as restaurants, clothing, or electronics. The limit could even be a soft cap that would allow the transaction but alert the account holder, or it could be a hard cap that would decline the transaction. The amount of control allows for many implementations, and the sooner we get this technology, the better
